According to the sheriff's office, a dispatcher learned that Thomas Becker, 49, of Sebeka, was intoxicated and allegedly threatened two adult females with a firearm and may have been holding them against their will.

Phone contact was lost with the females and law enforcement attempted contact with Becker but was unsuccessful, according to a news release.

A nearly five-hour standoff ensued and Becker was taken into custody without further incident shortly before midnight. Both females that were in the residence were found to be safe and unharmed, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Mike Carr said he was pleased with how this call ended and commended all officers involved in resolving a very serious situation.

The following agencies participated in the standoff: Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Wadena/Hubbard SWAT, Wadena County Sheriff K9, Sebeka Police Department, Menahga Police Department, Verndale Police Department, Wadena Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Tri-County Ambulance.

Becker is in the Wadena County Jail awaiting formal charges.
