School board members to be honored for years of service
The Minnesota School Boards Association will honor Park Rapids Area School Board member Dennis Dodge and Nevis School Board member Marv Vredenburg for 20 years of service on the school boards.
MSBA will present Dodge and Vredenburg with a 20-year service award during a recognition luncheon scheduled Thursday, Jan. 13 at MSBA's annual Leadership Conference at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Dodge and Vredenburg are among 14 board members to reach the 20-year milestone in 2011.
Each year, MSBA's awards committee gives this honor to long-serving board members. There are
nearly 2,300 school board members in Minnesota.
"The 20-year board member is a rare commodity," MSBA executive director Bob Meeks said.
"With demands on everyone, it is rare to see someone devote this much time and energy to making sure all of our children achieve. These are school board members who are committed to student achievement, determined to build support for their local schools and unwavering in their pursuit of what's best for students," he said.
"They also show a connection with the community - they wouldn't be re-elected over and over again unless the community knows of the board member's dedication," Meeks said.
MSBA is a private nonprofit organization that provides cost-saving programs, management support, board training, advocacy, research and referral for Minnesota's public schools.
