Sherry Safratowich will once again chair the Park Rapids Area School Board for 2013.

Safratowich has served on the school board in Park Rapids for 20 years. The board elected other officers at its re-organizational meeting Monday night as well. Gary Gauldin was named vice chair, Steph Carlson named clerk and Karol Savage named treasurer.

Safratowich, Gauldin and David Otterness also took the oath of office at Monday's meeting. They were re-elected to the school board at November's election.

In other business, the board:

n Approved the retirement of middle school teacher Steve Prenevost with regret and thanks for his 37 years of service to the students of Park Rapids Area Schools.

n Recognized Jacob Waggoner as Student of the Month for January.

n Set regular school board meetings for 6 p.m. the first and third Mondays of the month unless those dates conflict with holidays.

n Set school board compensation with no increase from previous years, with a base salary of $2,600 and $25 per meeting.

n Set superintendent and school board self evaluations for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30.

n Designated the Park Rapids Enterprise as the official newspaper.

n Designated official depositories for school district funds.

n Approved facsimile signatures on computer generated checks.

n Approved school district memberships for the Minnesota School Boards Association, Northwest Service Cooperative, North Country Vocational Cooperative, Minnesota Rural Education Association, Hubbard County Family Collaborative, and joint powers agreements for the city and county fueling facility and city and county community center.

n Authorized the superintendent, business manager, accounting technician and payroll technician to make electronic fund transfers as recommended by the school district's audit firm and to sign checks on the Imprest account.

n Approved the retirement of Terry Buell as bus driver, effective Dec. 12, 2012.

n Approved hiring Bill Christlieb as bus driver effective Dec. 4, 2012.

n Passed a resolution directing administration to make recommendations for adjustments in curriculum, programs and staffing for 2013-14.

n Approved Tier II reports and pay equity reports.

n Approved the University of North Dakota student teacher agreement.

n Approved an internship agreement with Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

n Approved teacher lane changes for Michael Baumgartner, Matthew Brandt, Kimberly Lempola, Jeannie Mayer, Stephanie Mercil, Eric Pilgrim and Denny Sleen.

n Approved a one-year leave of absence as assistant speech coach for Deb Davis. She will return to coaching next year, said assistant principal and activities director John Schumacher.

n Approved hiring Mike Ridlon as a girls basketball coaching volunteer.

n Approved hiring Jim Simpson as a junior high girls basketball coaching volunteer.

n Approved several donations, including $5,000 from Team Industries to the boys swimming team; $100 from Curt and Betty McCabe for the choir fund; and donations from the wrestling boosters for a mat lamp ($875), junior high singlets ($500) and junior high warm ups ($770).
