While the family was visiting friends in the Walker area Ruth met Grant G. Bethel. Later they were married in Walker on June 3, 1936. Nine children were born to this union.

Ruth and Grant were long-time residents of the Walker area. They owned and operated a woodcraft business for a number of years. Ruth was a very active lady. Besides raising her children she kept a big garden, worked at several restaurants in the area, and helped run the family business.

Grant passed away in 1973. Ruth and the children continued the business for a couple of years. For a few years Ruth resided in the Highland Apartments in Walker. Later she moved to River Heights Apartments in Park Rapids. Ruth spent her remaining years in Heritage Living Center.

Ruth enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting, watching the Minnesota Twins and golf on television. She loved working on crafts and could master most without a pattern. She had the knack of finding a solution to every problem. Her self-prescribed therapy consisted of Soaps and the Maury Show. What she most enjoyed in life was visiting with family and friends.

Ruth is survived by seven children, Donald (Frances) Bethel of New York Mills, Shirley (Bob) Jewell of Akeley, Susan Reichert, St. Cloud, Dorothy (Carral) Lanning, Litchfield, Tracy Bethel, Park Rapids, Keith Bethel, Rogers, Ark., Reggie (Amy) Bethel, Fergus Falls; 15 grandchildren, Kenneth, Wayne, Gail, Robert Jr., Kim, Chad, Valerie, Kurt, Heidi, Grant, Angela, Christina, Brandon, Staisha, Kyler; 31 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
