Isaac Overmyer (37th overall in 19:21) and Taylor Kimball (48th in 19:43) led Park Rapids to eighth place with 237 points. Moorhead led the 11-team boys field with 47 points. Lukas Gemar of Moorhead led the field by covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:29.

In the girls meet, Lydia Lutz finished third overall in 16:16 while Alex Pederson placed 20th overall in 17:59 in her first varsity meet. Moorhead won the girls title with 72 points while the Panthers were fifth out of 12 teams with 141 points. Fergus Falls' Haylie Zenner covered the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 15:47.

Rounding out Park Rapids' team score for the boys were Zac Haugland (59th in 20:17), Jake Waggoner (60th in 20:19) and Tanner Otterness (63rd in 20:28). Bailey Mueller (66th in 20:59) and Jacob Hays (70th in 21:17) rounded out the varsity lineup.

In the girls meet, Lora Remus (34th in 18:25), Kaylee Hilmanowski (42nd in 18:50), Tiffany Deitchler (44th in 18:55), Morgan Olson (49th in 19:13) and Shelby Pierce (53rd in 19:33) completed Park Rapids' varsity lineup.

In the boys junior varsity race, Nate Carlson (55th in 22:55), Ryan McBrady (65th in 23:31) and Josh Hays (80th in 24:33) competed for the Panthers. Adam Mackley (25th in 12:54), Matt Konshok (73rd in 15:07) and Wesley LaCoursiere (100th in 17:39) competed in the junior high 2-mile race.

"It was just a miserable day to run. The course is pretty flat, but the wind and heat more than makes up for that," said Park Rapids head coach Kerry Johnson. "I thought the day went well. I was happily surprised with the way the girls finished. Morgan and Shelby both ran at less than 100 percent. If they were healthy, we would have done even better. As far as the guys go, it's just so much fun to have so many runners. We have many first-time racers and they handled that well. I think this will be a great season for both the boys and girls. They are a hard working bunch and as the season progresses, they will continue to improve."
