Roy Modert Anderson, 70, of Park Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.

Roy was born at home July 6, 1943 in Mount Vernon, Ill. the son of Roy, Sr. and Velma (Morgan) Anderson. He grew up and attended school at Earlville, Ill. where he graduated from high school in 1961.

He went on to attend Southern Illinois University for three years, where he studied math. He entered the U.S. Army and served our country for three years from 1965 to 1968.

He was united in marriage to Carol Rizzo May 18, 1968 in Chicago, Ill. They lived in DeKalb, Ill. where they raised their children and Roy was a police officer for 21 years.

They moved to Park Rapids in 1991 where they have lived since. Roy was employed as a security officer for Port-O-Wilds security Company in Bemidji for 15 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He was a member of the Park Rapids Barber Shoppers for many years, and he was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids.

He was a loving husband and father and an avid Bears and White Sox fan.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anderson of Park Rapids; two daughters, Kristen (Jason) Lieving of Rochester, Ill., Stefanie Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Celebrant will be Father Thomas Friedl.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with 7 p.m. rosary service Wednesday Sept. 25, at Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids, also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
