Roy J. Bruhn, 85, of Vergas, died Monday, August 25, 2008, under the care of Vergas Assisted Living, with the assistance of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Roy John Bruhn was born to John and Henrietta (Antonsen) Bruhn on July 14, 1923, in Westport, Minn. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific and Japanese Theaters from 1943 to 1946. From 1948 until his retirement in 1982, he worked for Otter Tail County. Roy married Shirley (Schepper) Bruhn on July 21, 1951. They made their home in Vergas and raised their four children there. Shirley died in 1988.
Roy was a member of the Vergas Fire Department for 40 years, and a member of the Vergas City Council for 20 years. He enjoyed helping out with small engine repair until his time of illness.
Surviving Roy are his three sons, Val (Sheila) Bruhn of East Grand Forks, Minn., Van "Gus" (Karmen) Bruhn of Perham and Vaun (Pam) Bruhn of Perham; one daughter, Verla (Billy) Day of Vergas; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his special friend, Donna Frank; two sisters, Edna Turgeon of Vergas and Lillian Cady of Pine City, Minn.; one brother, Donald (Fern) Bruhn of Detroit Lakes; a brother-in-law, Marvin Sandau of Vergas; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Shirley (Schepper) Bruhn; three sisters, Rosemond Bruhn, Mildred Sandau and Marlys Berven; and three brothers-in-law, Tom Turgeon, Don Cady and Cal Berven.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the United Methodist Church in Vergas, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the United Methodist Church in Vergas, with the Rev. Gary Klempke officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Vergas Village Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home in Vergas.
