Ronald Anthony Steele, 73, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Park Rapids, died suddenly on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev., with his loving wife and dedicated sons at his side.
Ron was born on April 21, 1939 to Francis and Gladys (Buckingham) Steele in Park Rapids. He graduated from high school with the Class of 1957. After graduation he began a career in banking at Citizens National Bank, retiring in 1996.
He was married to Suzanne Nunn on Aug. 1, 1964 in Columbia Heights. This union was blessed with three sons, David, Gregory and Thomas.
Ron was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus serving on various committees throughout the years. He was active in the community having served as a charter member and officer in the Park Rapids Jaycees, treasurer of the Salvation Army and President of the Minnesota Bankers Association. He was in the National Guard and a member of the American Legion and Eagles Club.
Ron will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. Ron's greatest joy was having his children and grand children visit and enjoy the hunting land and cabin. Ron was excited to learn new technologies and had recently been texting his grand children with his iPhone and using Skype to talk with his family.
Ron is survived by his mother, Gladys; wife, Suzanne; three sons, David (Michelle) of Monticello, Gregory (Michelle) of Alexandria, and Thomas of Minneapolis. Ron enjoyed each of his 10 grandchildren, Corinne (19), Kara (18), Krista (16), Tim (14), Ben (10), Joe (8), Nick (5), Jacob (3), Jaegar (9) and Chloe (7); his brother, Gerald (Kathy) of Hutchinson; sister Marilyn (Lyle) Miller of Park Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis George Steele and one brother, Francis.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids.
Memorial visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
