Rodney Edwin Lof, 64, of Park Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home near Park Rapids, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.
Rod was born July 22, 1949 in Park Rapids to Roger and Louella (Lessman) Lof. He lived in the Emmaville area and graduated from Park Rapids High School. He attended the St. Cloud Technical College for concrete and masonry work. He began his career with Carlson Construction in Alexandria. After gaining experience, Rod opened Lof Concrete Construction in Park Rapids which he owned and operated for many years.
He was united in marriage to Sandra Pearson Feb. 6, 1975 in Cheyenne, Wyo. This union was blessed with two sons, Dustin and Forrest.
Rod later shifted his business into excavation and gravel products. He was also involved in timber management on his property, logging and planting trees and owned his own sawmill.
Rod was very involved in the community and served on the Lake Emma Town Board and the Lake Emma Cemetery Board for many years. He was also a member of the Minnesota Tree Farmer and the Minnesota Forestry Association. Rod was a Credentialed Cooperative Director and served on the Itasca-Mantrap Cooperative Board and the Great River Energy Board.
Rod and Sandy had a passion for travel and over the years ventured across the globe including visits to China, Ireland and Viet Nam just to name a few.
He loved the outdoors and could be found biking the trails near his home in summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. He also enjoyed hunting for deer each fall. Above all, Rod enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren who were his pride and joy in life.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandra of Park Rapids; sons, Dustin (Shelley) Lof of Park Rapids and Forrest Lof of Nevis; two grandchildren Jacob and Alex; mother, Louella Lof of Park Rapids; two siblings, Steve (LuAnn) Lof of Akeley and Nancy (LeRoy) Condon of Park Rapids; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie and Eva Lof, John and Josie Lessman; father, Roger Lof; and nephews, Shawn Lof and Roberto Pearson.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Rev. James Neubauer and Rev. David Cripe officiating. Special music will be "Precious Memories" and "Something Beautiful Remains." The Park Rapids High School Choir Class will also be performing.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Interment: will be at the Lake Emma Cemetery near Emmaville at a later date.
A luncheon will be held at the Park Rapids Eagles Club in Park Rapids following the service.
