ROBERTA FRANCES LUTZ
Roberta Frances (Will) Lutz, 80, of Grand Rapids, was taken to be with her loving Savior Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
She was born July 3, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa and lived an interesting and engaging life that took her to live in three continents and eight countries to share Christ.
Her elementary education took place in both Iowa and Minnesota. She served as the college homecoming queen in 1953. She graduated from Concordia College, St. Paul, with an AA degree in 1954.
Roberta and Bernhard W. Lutz were married in West St. Paul on June 23, 1956.
She taught elementary school in Tinley Park, Ill., Milwaukee, Wis., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Papua New Guinea and Fulda.
Roberta and Bernie were blessed with four children, Lori (Craig) Johnson, Robert (Theresa) Lutz, David (Lisa) Lutz and Rebecca Lutz and special friend Chris.
Her life was filled with many missionary activities always giving thanks and praise to Jesus for the opportunity to serve Him. Her mission life included eight years in Papua, New Guinea, five years in Obot Idim, Nigeria and four years in Beirut, Lebanon. While serving in the United States, she was an LWML member, sang in choir, and played the church organ. Roberta and Bernie served parishes in Fulda, Bozeman, Mont., Moorhead and Menahga and Wolf Lake. Roberta was a fantastic help-mate for her mission-minded husband, always humble and faithful in every way.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
Roberta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bernhard; four children; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her twin brother, Ron (Jan) Will.
Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. Rev. Greg DeMuth will officiate.
Inurnment: will be at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, West St. Paul.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to Lutheran Heritage Foundation of Macomb, Mich.
