Ridlon lifts Panthers to tourney win

     Charity Ridlon’s 55 points led the Park Rapids girls basketball team to runner-up honors in the Valkyrie Division of the Pelican Rapids Holiday Tournament.

     Ridlon’s 22 points and six steals led the Panthers to a 63-48 win over Battle Lake in the tournament opener on Dec. 27. Ridlon followed with a career-high 33 points in the Panthers’ 73-67 loss to Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal in the championship game on Dec. 28.

     Park Rapids enters 2014 with a 2-5 overall record.

Panthers win battle vs. Battle Lake

     Battle Lake jumped out to a 14-1 lead before the Panthers battled back for the win.

     Ridlon’s 12 points and Katie Klein’s 10 points gave the Panthers a 28-27 lead at the half.

     Ridlon scored 10 points and the Panthers hit 10 free throws in the second half to pull off the victory.

     Klein added 18 points, six steals and four assists while Megan Grimes pulled down 11 rebounds for the Panthers.

     Katie Rilla’s 22 points led Battle Lake, which fell to 3-3.

Free throws lift U-H to win

     Ulen-Hitterdal hit eight free throws down the stretch to edge Park Rapids for the tournament title.

     Ridlon scored 18 points, Bria Wolff hit three field goals and Hope Johnson made a pair of 3-pointers as the Panthers led 38-34 at the half.

     Two 3-pointers by Ridlon, three inside baskets by Gabie Johnson, and 3-pointers by Hope Johnson and Justine Rittgers kept the Panthers in the game before U-H took advantage of fouls late to rally for the win.

     Ridlon and Wolff hauled down 10 rebounds each, Gabie Johnson had nine rebounds, Grimes had five steals, Klein had four assists and Wolff blocked three shots for the Panthers.

     Haley Henrickson scored 26 points and Cassy Buchanan added 17 points for U-H, which improved to 4-3.
