Stacey Hogland of 115 Riverside Avenue attended Thursday's contractor's meeting for the Highway 34 reconstruction project to ask for help with damage to the basement of her residence following the August storm, which flooded the street.

Hogland said city officials suggested she should attend the meeting.

The new storm sewers installed as part of the highway project weren't connected yet when the storm occurred.

Hogland said she was planning to start a day care business in her home before the basement flooded and now she has to wait since there is mold. She has removed carpet and scrubbed the walls and floor with bleach, but there is mold anyway, she said.

The water came in so fast, it broke a window in the window well and flooded six to seven inches deep all the way to the back yard.

Hogland said she has lived in the home since May but talked to people who used to own the house and they told her the basement had never flooded before.

Larry Randall, Minnesota Department of Transportation project supervisor, told Hogland he would make sure the Bemidji District Office is made aware of what happened.

Burying a new water line on the north side of Highway 34 in Park Rapids is scheduled to continue through next week, according to Allan Minnerath of Central Specialties, general contractor for the highway project.

The underground utility work on the section of Highway 34 east, currently closed to through-traffic, is completed.

Earthwork in preparation for surfacing is well underway, he said. Trucks may begin hauling gravel as soon as Sept. 24.

East and westbound traffic east of Park Rapids is being routed along Co. Rd. 107. Drivers using CSAH 4 are directed to 169th Avenue. The detour is likely to be on until mid-October.

The posted speed limit on Co. Rd. 107 is 45 mph.

Weekly construction meetings are at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Park Rapids Area Library, located at 210 West 1st St.
