Red Roof Deli opens on Main in Menahga Main
For those craving a home-cooked meal or just a quick bite, the Red Roof Deli is the place to go.
Its tasty aroma, bright interior and friendly customer service are reasons it's had steady traffic for the past week.
Owners Punky and Amy Massie and Bruce Craig opened the new business about a week ago and are so far happy with the outcome.
"The community has been very supportive," Punky Massie said. "After a week, the future definitely looks bright."
The owners converted the space located on Main Street in Menahga from a realtor's office to a deli and it's now ready for some homemade soups, salads and sandwiches.
Punky brings his mother's recipes to the restaurant and Amy adds her grandmother's twist on things, while Craig cooks up his original smoked ribs.
When customers hear about the place and Amy's reputation for good cooking, they stop right in.
Vicki Walters of Osage had lunch at the Red Roof Deli for the first time Saturday to taste for herself.
"My daughter told me Amy is such a good cook you have to try it," Walters said.
The Massies' business is known for Punky's original barbecue sauce and "broasted" chicken, which is cooked in a pressurized fryer.
A build your own sandwich option is also available, different specials are offered every day of the week and if customers are located close enough to the Red Roof Deli, a delivery service can be arranged.
"If we can see your building from our front door, then we'll deliver," Punky said.
A little help from 10-year-old Vaughn Massie and 8-year-old Kirby Massie for delivery, sandwich making and cleaning of the deli helps Punky maintain the business.
The family-run business is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Red Roof Deli will also set up a table outside on Main Street during Menahga's Midsummer Celebration in July.
