Reception Sunday for Bender
Area resident and artist Bickey Bender, Blank Canvas Gallery's featured artist in June, will be displaying a group of paintings inspired by her travel to Bosnia a few years ago.
A public reception for this show will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at the gallery with the artist present.
It was through a friendship with Nediha Kolakovic, a Bosnian immigrant to Fargo, that Bender ended up traveling to Bosnia.
"I found the buildings in the cities intriguing as well as the people, animals and countryside," Bender said. "My camera was always by my side and I returned with many photos of the area. I hope that in these (artworks) you will get a glimpse of the stories that lie behind the paintings. They may inspire you to take a trip to a place...filled with ancient history, beautiful scenery and friendly people."
Enjoy wine and refreshments; visit with Bickey and other member artists to learn more about their art work and what inspires them.
In addition, several new guest artists are displaying artwork at the gallery in June and will be available to discuss their work at the reception and open house.
Some of the guest artist offerings are: photography and jewelry by Dennis and Jeannie Krull, carved wood pieces from the Loon Country Carvers of Park Rapids, jewelry by Nediha Kolakovic, and Kelly Sanquist from Kelly's Cottage Garden is displaying "Containers of Succulents."
