Rangers use 18-0 run to spark win over Panthers

Chelsey Bonsante hit three straight baskets to spark an 18-0 run late in the first half that sparked Crosby-Ironton to a 64-30 Mid-State Conference girls basketball victory at Park Rapids Tuesday night.

C-I jumped out to a 17-5 lead with 12:03 to play in the first half before a three-point play by Olivia Vaadeland, a layup off a steal by Grace Bateman, a jumper by Ashley Domino, and layups by Carson Lee Christenson and Lydia Lutz pulled the Panthers to within 23-16 at the 5:59 mark.

Bonsante then hit a jumper, a 3-pointer and a layup to spark the game-opening 18-0 run. Sami Goshey and Jana Anderson hit 3-pointers and Kristine Gustafson converted a three-point play to end that run, which gave the Rangers a 41-16 lead with 2:25 to play in the first half.

Alyssa Carlson's 3-pointer with 51 seconds left ended that run as the Panthers faced a 41-19 deficit at the half.

Three-pointers by Bonsante and September Prushek and three-point plays by Shannon Lundgren and Sienna Miller pushed the Rangers' lead to 60-25 with 8:19 to play. Vaadeland scored off a rebound and Domino scored inside for the Panthers as C-I opened the second half with a 19-6 run.

Two jumpers by Amber Booge capped off the scoring for the Panthers, who fell to 0-3 on the season.

Vaadeland led the Panthers with 9 points while Lutz and Domino grabbed eight rebounds apiece. Park Rapids had 31 turnovers.

Bonsante finished with 21 points as C-I improved to 2-0.
