Rain, snow showers possible today, and some snow may stick around

Some of the snow that falls today is likely to stick.

It is mid-November, after all. And temperatures will strain to get north of freezing, if that happens at all, on some days this week.

It's shaping up to be the coldest week of this fall season -- so far.

In fact, the best chance of accumulating snowfall, according to the National Weather Service, is along a line from Devils Lake southeast to Fargo to Park Rapids, Minn., where one inch is possible.

The weather service says light wind will increase and shift to the northwest late this morning and afternoon in the wake of a cold front. Expect wind speeds from 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph along and west of the Red River Valley.

The weather service says those high winds will create three- to five-foot waves on the eastern and southeastern shores of Devils Lake and Stump Lake.

Come Thursday night and Friday, more light snow is expected along and north of U.S. Highway 2.

There's a possibility of a more significant storm with snow on Saturday, depending on the track of a storm system across the central Great Plains, according to the weather service.
