Courtney Volkmann's three 3-pointers sparked a 20-3 run to start the game as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls basketball team posted a 57-26 Mid-State Conference victory over Park Rapids at the Area High School gym Tuesday night.

Two baskets by Hailey Lundin and four field goals by Hannah Wolff led the Panthers, who trailed 41-16 at the half.

Two free throws and a basket off a rebound by Olivia Vaadeland, two free throws and a jumper by Alyssa Carlson, and a jump shot by Sophie Shogren accounted for all the scoring for Park Rapids in the second half.

Wolff finished with 10 points and five rebounds, Carlson had 6 points and Vaadeland had five rebounds for the Panthers, who shot 19 percent from the field and had 28 turnovers. The loss dropped Park Rapids to 0-2 in the conference and 1-2 overall entering Thursday night's game with Bagley.

Volkmann scored 16 points and Avery Jackson added 14 points to lead the Wolverines, who improved to 1-1 in the conference and 2-1 overall.

Fast start sparks Patriots

Three players scored in double figures in the first half as Pequot Lakes built a 53-23 lead en route to an 86-42 Mid-State Conference victory over the Panthers last Friday night at Pequot Lakes.

Kylie Beltz scored 17 of her game-high 22 points in the first half while Mattie Lueck (12) and Emily Lueck (11) also hit double figures in the first half to lead the Patriots.

Wolff scored 20 points and Carlson had 7 points to lead the Panthers.
