Purple Plungers, fisher folks raise $10,400 and spirits in Akeley's Answer to Cancer

Kids of all ages arrived on 11th Crow Wing Lake ice Saturday to raise funds for area

residents battling cancer. This year's event

honored its founder, Melissa "Nib" Niblick, who recently lost her battle with cancer. The first Purple Dream was orchestrated by Niblick as a fundraiser for her friend, Audrey Pidde. This is the fifth fundraising event for the public. Rita Holland of Park Rapids claimed first in fundraising with $1,826 in donations for her jump into the icy waters. Plungers raised approximately $5,000.
