Police say Fargo man ran over pole, punched officer
FARGO - A 22-year-old Fargo man was in jail after he allegedly ran over a light pole and punched a police officer trying to arrest him.
Witnesses reported two vehicles driving wildly about 2 a.m. today in the 4300 block of Ninth Avenue South. One of the vehicles, a pickup, hit a pole and pulled into a nearby apartment parking lot.
Police found the driver, Brandon Charles Kevgaard, in his apartment and arrested him, Sgt. Mark Lykken said. Kevgaard allegedly hit an officer in the mouth with a closed fist during the arrest, he said.
Kevgaard was arrested on suspicion of simple assault against a police officer, resisting a police officer, driving under the influence and duty upon striking a fixture for hitting the light pole, which had to be disconnected because of the damage, Lykken said.
Kevgaard suffered a cut to his head from the crash and was checked over at Innovis Hospital before being taken to the Cass County Jail, Lykken said.
Police were unable to find the other vehicle.
