Police chase ends in crash, serious injury at Leech Lake

One person was seriously injured when a vehicle involved in a police chase left the road, rolled and struck several trees on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation early this morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident occurred at 12:28 a.m. north of Cass Lake in Beltrami County, near the intersection of Mission Road and Power Dam Road Northeast.

Police said the vehicle was fleeing from Leech Lake Tribal Police at high rates of speed when it ran out of control, entered the left ditch, rolled and struck several trees. Conductions were icy on the gravel road at the time of the accident.

The unidentified driver of the vehicle, a 1998 Dodge Durango, was flown to an unnamed hospital by North Air Care.

Minnesota State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Leech Lake Tribal Police, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Department, Cass Lake Fire and Rescue, Leech Lake Ambulance and North Air Care.
