‘The Podunk Poets’ to perform at Sleeping Fawn
A call out on social media is bringing a California band to a Park Rapids resort to perform a concert.
Joe Scharber, from Sleeping Fawn Resort and Campground, said he started following the band “The Podunk Poets” on Facebook for at least a year. The band, created in 2011, is a classic country-inspired, duet-fronted band from Los Angeles. They create original music inspired by their love of the classic sound of country duet legends such as Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty.
One day a few months back, he came across a Facebook post from the band saying that they were going to Minneapolis to perform at a fundraiser with Katy Perry.
Band members also said they had two free days to play somewhere else.
“I jokingly said, ‘Come to Sleeping Fawn Resort in PR,’” Scharber said. “One of the lead singers replied saying, “that sounds like a lot of fun! Do you have a place for us to stay if we were to come there?’”
He responded, saying he had a cabin available. After discussing it with band members, they agreed to head to Sleeping Fawn Resort for a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3.
Scharber said the show is a public fundraiser and he will be accepting donations for the Hubbard County Food Shelf and Headwaters Animal Shelter.
Anyone interested in attending should bring a chair to sit on and come enjoy this freewill event.
