Pirate rally, top Panthers in overtime

Dylan Klatt scored the game-tying goal with 3:17 to play in regulation and scored the game-winning goal 2:48 into overtime in lifting Crookston to a 5-4 Section 8A victory over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team Tuesday night at Crookston.

Paul Bittner's power-play goal gave Crookston a 1-0 lead after the first period before the Panthers scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead.

Sam Coborn fed Ian Johnson for a goal at the 7:47 mark and Levi Erickson followed with a goal at the 14:47 mark to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead after the second period. Coborn and Benson Ringle had assists on Erickson's goal. Crookston held a 14-9 edge in shots in that period.

Coborn set up Erickson for his second goal of the game 3:04 into the third period to give the Panthers a 3-1 cushion.

The Pirates countered on goals by Connor Morgan and Ryan Edevold to tie the game at 3-3 before Erickson set up Coborn for a power-play goal with 3:29 remaining.

However, Klatt scored 12 seconds later to tie the game before scoring the game-winner in overtime.

Coborn's goal and three assists gave him 20 points this season and 193 in his career to move past Tyler Lehrke for the No. 2 spot in school history. Zach Lehrke is the Panthers' all-time leading scorer with 212 points.

Park Rapids goalie Cody Brumbaugh finished with 30 saves as the Panthers fell to 2-3 against section opponents and 3-3 overall.

The Pirates improved to 3-0 in section play, 1-2-1 in overtime games and 3-5-1 overall.
