Perham tops Panthers for first win

Perham won two close matches to defeat the Park Rapids boys tennis team Monday.

The Yellowjackets avenged a 4-3 loss to Park Rapids earlier this season by sweeping the three doubles matches and winning a close match at No. 3 singles.

The Panthers won three of the four matches in singles play behind straight-set wins by Alex Renner at No. 1 singles, Scott Smith at No. 2 singles and Mitch Fossen at No. 4 singles.

Chris Shaw lost a close match at No. 3 singles while Iain Wallace and Jaden Olson lost in three sets at No. 3 doubles as the Panthers fell to 2-4 in the conference and 2-10 overall.

The Yellowjackets, who won their first dual meet since 2009, improved to 1-7 on the season.

Park Rapids' match at Wadena Tuesday was rained out.

No. 1 singles: Alex Renner, PR, over Jordan Cresap 6-2, 6-3.

No. 2 singles: Scott Smith, PR, over Dillon Shields 6-1, 6-2.

No. 3 singles: Randy Swanson, P, over Chris Shaw 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

No. 4 singles: Mitch Fossen, PR, over James Hersch 6-4, 6-3.

No. 1 doubles: Madison Parison/Austin Andreen, P, over Matt Sullivan/Jeff Dickinson 6-3, 6-1.

No. 2 doubles: Mike Botzet/Al Schoeneberger, P, over Calvin Bateman/Steven Osterman 6-0, 6-2.

No. 3 doubles: Trevor Meech/Brian Howey, P, over Iain Wallace/Jaden Olson 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
