Perham player has heart surgery Friday; still in critical condition
Zach Gabbard underwent emergency heart surgery Friday morning and is now resting comfortably, according to his CaringBridge website.
Nearly 100,000 visitors have visited Gabbard's CaringBridge site since the 17-year-old Perham basketball player collapsed on the court during a game in Glyndon, Minn., on Thursday, Jan. 20.
Gabbard was taken to Sanford Health in Fargo and later transferred to University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.
According to a post on his CaringBridge site, the surgery was expected to last up to 10 hours but was successfully finished in three hours.
Gabbard's vital signs are stable but remains in critical condition, the site said.
