Perham man sentenced for abusive spanking
A Perham man was sentenced recently in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of malicious punishment of a child.
Timothy Lee Fowler, 38, formerly of Frazee, whose address is now listed as P.O. Box 183, Perham, was given a stayed sentence on conditions including up to five years' supervised probation, 30 days in jail and 30 days on electronic home monitoring (at his own expense), and community service work in lieu of $1,085 in court fines and fees.
If he successfully completes probation, the charge will be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor on his record.
According to court records, on April 20, 2010, Fowler allegedly punished one of his sons who had been disrespectful in school by spanking him repeatedly for 15 minutes, leaving his buttocks and upper legs covered in bruises.
The boy allegedly had difficulty sitting for several days because of the pain.
Fowler allegedly admitted spanking the boy for 15 minutes behind the shed at his residence, and said he was a large, strong man and didn't realize how hard he was spanking him.
