Perham man arrested after 14-hour standoff
A Perham man turned himself in and was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a 14-hour standoff with law enforcement.
The incident began late Monday night when Harold Wayne Pyle, age 42, allegedly attempted to strangle two people at a home on Toad River Road in Perham.
Otter Tail County Sheriff Brian Schlueter said at the scene that officers received a report of a domestic situation at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Two individuals reported that a man attempted to harm them by strangulation. Both were able to escape unharmed.
Schlueter said when police arrived in the night the suspect was uncooperative and threatening, so law enforcement decided to hold off until daylight to, "give him time to cool off."
The sheriff's department called in the SWAT team and proceeded to set up near the Toad River Storage unit on County Highway 13.
Pyle turned himself in at about 2 p.m. He will be charged with domestic assault and strangulation.
