Entering Friday night's Mid-State Conference game against Crosby-Ironton, the Park Rapids girls basketball team had allowed an average of 70 points a game.

The Panthers stepped it up on the defensive end by holding the Rangers to only 18 points in the first half. However, Chelsey Bonsante scored 10 of her 14 points after the intermission to break open a close game and lead C-I to a 49-28 victory at the Area High School gym.

The Rangers jumped out to a 13-2 lead, but Hope Johnson's basket at the 9:46 mark, a layup by Megan Grimes at the 5:32 mark, a 3-pointer by Amber Booge at the 1:58 mark and a basket off a rebound by Grimes with 1:14 to play kept the Panthers within 18-12 at the break.

Bonsante (10), Meredith Silgen (9) and Missy Foote (8) combined for 27 points in the second half as the Rangers went on a 31-12 run to take control.

Foote finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Silgen chipped in 11 points as the Rangers won their fourth straight game to improve to 2-5 in the conference and 9-7 overall.

Grimes, Johnson, Justine Rittgers and Tori Lauderbaugh combined for 16 points while Grimes (7) and Charity Ridlon (6) combined for 13 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Park Rapids, which held an opponent under 50 points for only the second time this season, fell to 0-7 in the conference and 1-15 overall.

Moenkedick leads Perham to win

Katrina Moenkedick's 22 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots led Perham to a 75-40 win over the Panthers Thursday night at Perham.

Becky Stoll added 18 points and 10 assists as the Yellowjackets used a 43-18 halftime lead to improve to 6-10 on the season.

Katie Klein scored 13 points while Grace Bateman (8) and Ridlon (6) combined for 14 points to lead the Panthers. Grimes led the way with seven rebounds and three steals.
