Pastor Hopman was born in 1978 and baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection at Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, Ill. In college he was interested in biology and had an internship at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Martin Luther’s writing led him to attend the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, and he later studied at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, where he earned his Master of Theology degree.

His first call was in the Keweenaw Peninsula of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was in the UP Pastor Hopman met his wife, Mary. Their daughters Solveig and Inga were born in the Upper Peninsula. Average snowfall in the UP is well over 200 inches per year, the Hopmans are very familiar with snowy climates.

The last few years they have enjoyed living in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada where Pastor Hopman served a church that has services in both English and German. Most of his parishioners grew up in ethnically German areas in Europe. Many are from the Ukraine and Poland and most immigrated to North America ahead of the advancing Red Army in January of 1945. They well understand what Christ says about suffering.

The Hopmans recently moved back to the U.S. and Great Lakes Region and look forward to the opportunity to serve Peace Lutheran Church. With their third daughter Tove, being born in Vancouver, they are also happy to be to living closer to family.

Peace Lutheran Church (LCMC) is located at 24025 Highway 34, two miles west of Nevis and 10 miles east of Park Rapids. For more information contact the church office at 218-652-6508.
