Peace Lutheran Dedication is May 18
Peace Lutheran Church of Nevis extends a cordial invitation to the dedication service and open house at their new facility on Highway 34 two miles west of Nevis, on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. and a picnic style barbecue pork dinner will follow the service. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available.
Members of Peace will be celebrating a three-year journey that began in the summer of 2011. The first worship service was held in the band room at the Nevis School. During the months that followed many organizational items were accomplished, including the eventual affiliation with the Augustana District of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). In January 2012, Peace Lutheran chartered with 120 members.
When the Highway 34 property became available and was purchased, a property committee was formed to study the building options. During the second year as Peace Lutheran, the arduous task of tearing down the burned out Velvet Antler Restaurant and Whitetail Tavern buildings became a reality. With a cleaned up building site, construction began in July 2013.
Because of the many hours of contract labor and volunteer work by members and the community coming together, we were able to move into our new facility before Christmas in 2013.
Peace Lutheran offers opportunities for all ages, a place in the country to worship and meet and greet friends and neighbors. An important part of the ministry at PLC is to reach out to organizations in the community and the world through monetary donations and hands on service projects.
Pastor Nicholas Hopman, along with his wife Mary and three children recently began their full time ministry with us. Prior to their moving here from Vancouver, Peace was blessed to enjoy the ministry of three different interim pastors.
As Christian believers, rooted in God’s word, Peace members are eager to spread the Good News of Christ in the community and around the world. For more information visit peacelutherannevis.com or call the church office at 652-6508.
