Parker Meltdown Contest begins
Parker, the mascot for the downtown construction project this summer, decided to try his hand at ice fishing in the Fish Hook River, lost his balance and fell in the water. When we hauled him out, he was frozen like a giant ice cube. Now he's at Pioneer Park on the second block of Main Avenue waiting for spring.
When will Parker melt? Your guess is as good as ours, but for $1 a guess you could win the Parker Meltdown Contest. A $300 prize package will be awarded to the person who comes closest to choosing the month, day and time Parker is ice-free.
The contest is sponsored by Lamb Weston/RDO Frozen, AmeriCold, EcoWater, Rick Ronnebaum, LuAnn Hurd Lof, Team Industries, DeLaHunt Broadcasting, ACS, the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Park Rapids Downtown Business Association.
If you haven't seen Parker yet, he's about as tall as a fourth grader. Parker doesn't weigh as much as a fourth grader though. He eats mostly carrots and spinach so he's kind of green, but we're glad he's brightly colored. He's easy to see in the dark and that's good because we don't want him to get lost. You may have seen Parker or photos of him at the Jingle Bells Gala before Christmas at Century School or on his Facebook page: Parker loves Park Rapids.
Tickets are on sale from volunteers and at the following locations: Bogey's, Citizens National Bank, Northwoods Bank of Park Rapids, Park Rapids American Legion, Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber, Royal Bar and State Bank of Park Rapids.
Ticket sales will end no later than Feb. 28, 2010. If the meltdown occurs sooner, than Feb. 28, ticket sales will cease. All tickets must be turned in by 5 p.m. the last day of sales. In case of a tie, a random drawing from all the correct guesses will determine the winner.
Contest proceeds will go to the Park Rapids Downtown Promotions and Marketing Committee.
