That yellowish tinge to your water, if you're a Park Rapids resident, is actually a good sign.

Park Rapids Public Works Director Scott Burlingame said what the water may lack in aesthetics will be offset by the health benefit. The water is loaded with iron.

City residents noticed about two weeks ago the water was coming out of the tap with a slight yellow hue that's gotten darker in time.

"We have a new well online and it has about half a part per million of iron in the water," Burlingame said.

"Once we get this new well house 100 percent completed it will be able to clear that out. We'll be doing some flushing of mains and whatnot to mitigate those problems."

There's "absolutely no health concern," Burlingame said. The water is safe to drink, to cook in, to bathe in.

It should start clearing gradually. The city began drilling a deep water well last fall when two of its shallower wells were found to have nitrate concentrations in excess of what was considered safe and were shut down.
