Park Rapids teams placed first and second at Envirothon
Two Park Rapids Area High School teams won the two top spots in the Area 8 Envirothon at Lake Bemidji State Park April 23.
Students on the first place team were Kyle Harsha, Tegan Skelly, Tom Juberian, Nate Dennis and Mark Smith and on the second place team they were Sarah Blanford, Samantha Workman, Camren Bridgman, Zach Lehrke and Dylan Landquist. Their teacher is Kevin Young.
A team from Lake of the Woods High School took third place at the event. Teams from 10 high schools in Hubbard, Beltrami, Clearwater, Wadena, Cass, Crow Wing, Itasca and Lake of the Woods counties participated in this outdoor learning event that seeks to promote natural resource involvement and education.
At the Envirothon, teams of 4-5 students work collaboratively to answer questions at learning stations presented by professionals in the fields of aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and a current events topic. They also present an 8- to 10-minute oral presentation on a current environmental issue.
This year's winning teams from the eight SWCDs in Minnesota will compete at the State Envirothon May 14 at Prairie Wetlands Learning Center, Fergus Falls.
