Park Rapids Area High School actors and actresses once again claimed top prize in sub-section one-act play competition and will move on to section competitions Saturday in the high school auditorium. Performances from eight schools claiming first and second place awards begin at 9 a.m. with the public welcome. The competing schools include Wadena, Eagle Valley, Perham, Parkers Prairie, Hawley, Lake Park-Audubon, Laporte and Park Rapids. First place goes to state. The play's synopsis: Once upon a time, fairy tales by the likes of Charles Perrault and The Brothers Grimm held allure for audiences far beyond the nursery room door. At once magic and macabre, their fables and folklore invited readers to examine the darker side of the human psyche. Playwright Mary Zimmerman leads us on a captivating voyage into our collective childhood subconscious, offering a renewed appreciation for the grim side of "happily ever after".
