Park Rapids Schools to implement online system with info for parents
Not that long ago, parents learned of their kids' academic progress via a report card, arriving at the end of a quarter of school.
The C or D in math was a "done deal."
Today, parents can pull up timely information on their student's grades, attendance and other info on the computer.
And the program has just received an update.
The Park Rapids Schools are implementing ParentVUE, replacing Parent Connect, high school principal Jeff Johnson told the board this week of the Genesis Parent Online System.
"It's almost like looking at a teacher's grade book," he explained - via the computer. The program, he said, updates student information every night.
ParentVUE will be operational Wednesday, Oct. 13. Parents will need to stop by the elementary, middle or high school office to set up an account and receive an activation key.
A parent/guardian with more than one child needs to set up just a single account.
Establishing the account can be done during parent-teacher conferences. School offices will be open during the hours of the conferences, 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 and Monday, Oct. 18 and from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. during all-day conferences Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Once the account has been established, parents can then access ParentVUE through the Park Rapids Schools' website, www.parkrapids.k12.mn.us, and click on Genesis parent account/activate my account. At that page, parents formally set up the account, which can also be viewed by the student.
Information will be available for students in grades 4-12; kindergarten through third is not using the grade book, Johnson said.
