Park Rapids Post Office hours to change
Starting Saturday, Dec. 7 the Park Rapids post office will be changing their hours of operation, but all services will continue to remain the same.
Currently open from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday the hours of operation thereafter will change to 10 a.m. to noon.
Among possible changes on the horizon include rate, service offering and day of operation changes.
In recent years the United States Postal Service (USPS) has struggled financially, prompting drastic changes to their long-held and Congress-mandated business model.
According to a recent Reuters report, although the USPS reported an operating revenues rise to $66 billion from last year’s $65.2 billion for the first time since 2008, first-class mail, or “stamped mail” - which remains the post office’s most profitable product – still fell by $2.8 billion pieces in 2013.
This was the seventh consecutive year of overall USPS losses as first-class mail volumes continued to tumble, with more Americans communicating and paying bills electronically.
The USPS is also struggling to make massive payments into its future retirees’ healthcare fund, which was mandated by Congress in 2006.
As of now, the Park Rapids Post Office remains committed to offering all of the same services they have offered in the past.
