Park Rapids, Perham settle for a split in Mid-State play
A 15-hit attack led the Park Rapids fastpitch softball team to a 12-2 six-inning victory over Perham in the first game of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Park Rapids.
The Panthers managed only five hits in the second game as Perham salvaged a split with a 7-3 win.
Park Rapids took control of the first game by scoring five times in the first inning and four times in the second.
Singles by Cady Clinton, Maria Goetz, Danielle Dent and Brie Warne and a two-run double by Jenny Palm gave the Panthers the early lead.
A single by Warne, a double by Palm, and RBI singles by Alyssa Carlson and Clinton pushed the lead to 9-2 in the third.
After another double by Dent led to a run in the fourth, the Panthers ended this game early by scoring twice in the sixth. Another double by Dent and singles by Warne, Leeza Tostenson and Palm led to the final runs.
Clinton, Dent, Warne and Palm all had three hits to lead the Panthers' offense. Warne allowed two unearned runs on four hits and struck out 10 for the win.
Perham scored two unearned runs in the third and added three more unearned runs in the seventh to earn the split with a 7-3 win in the second game.
Clinton singled and scored in the first as the Panthers tied the game at 1-1. Perham built a 7-1 lead before the Panthers mounted a rally in the seventh.
Carlson walked and Clinton was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A wild pitch and an RBI double by Dent ended the scoring.
Clinton allowed eight hits and struck out eight in taking the loss.
The Panthers are now 5-1 in conference play and 6-3 overall. Perham is 3-1 in the conference and 6-3 overall.
