Park Rapids, Nevis relay teams shine at Little Amik II Invitational
Lydia Lutz won the 3,200-meter run and ran on the winning 4 x 800-meter relay in leading the Park Rapids girls track and field team to third place at last Tuesday's Little Amik II Invitational at Bemidji State University.
Lutz clocked a 12:09.12 to lead the field in the 3,200 run and joined Hannah Wolff, Sophie Shogren and Victoria Lutz for a 10:08.69 to win the 4 x 800 relay.
Victoria Lutz's runner-up 2:31.63 in the 800 run helped the Panthers accumulate 63 points in this 23-team indoor meet. Bagley/ Fosston took first with 88 points while Bemidji was second with 74 points.
Nevis, led by Paige Walters' winning time of 28.24 in the 200 dash, finished eighth with 41.50 points.
In the boys meet, Brock Fritze, Sterling Lindahl, Sean Hayes and Cody Timmons clocked a runner-up 3:48.10 in the 4 x 400 relay to lead the Panthers to seventh place with 30 points. Bemidji edged Roseau for the boys title with 77 points.
Nevis and United North Central each placed in one event.
Girls finish in third place
Balance helped the Panthers finish third in the girls meet.
In addition to the two winning efforts and one runner-up showing, the Panthers had three third-place performances. Morgan Olson took third in the 3,200 run, Rachel Thelen placed third in the pole vault, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Shogren, Mandy Schirmers, Victoria Lutz and Wolff finished third.
Completing Park Rapids' team score were Thelen in the 55 dash (fourth); Nicole Knott in the shot put (fourth); the 4 x 200 relay team of Shannon Taylor, Grace Bateman, Shelby Pierce and Thelen (fourth); and Pierce in the 400 dash (seventh).
Nevis placed in six events with Walters' winning time leading the way. Walters also joined Megan Stambaugh, Annessa Feder and Riley Hanson on the 4 x 200 relay team, which clocked a 1:54.78 for runner-up honors. Feder also took second in the high jump by clearing 5 feet.
Also placing for the Tigers were Lindow (fifth) and Feder (sixth) in the 55 dash, Stambaugh in the 400 (sixth), Feder in the 200 (fifth), Lindow in the long jump (eighth), and Hanson in the high jump (tied for eighth).
Timmons leads way for boys
In addition to running on the runner-up 4 x 200 relay, Timmons added a pair of third-place efforts to lead the Panthers.
Timmons took third in the 200 dash and joined Mike McDowell, Hayes and Lindahl on the third-place 4 x 200 relay team. Timmons also placed fourth in the high jump.
Rounding out Park Rapids' scoring were Fritze in the 400 (sixth), McDowell in the high jump (eighth) and Zac Haugland in the 3,200 run (eighth).
Bryon Schuldt finished third in the 1,600 to account for Nevis' 6 points while Tom Gruchow placed fourth in the 400 to account for United North Central's 5 points.
