Park Rapids man seriously injured in motorcycle crash
A Park Rapids motorcyclist underwent surgery Monday afternoon at Hennepin County Medical Center after being seriously injured Sunday just before noon in a crash on Highway 34.
Bruce Arthur Fritz, 53, was injured when he ran into the side of a vehicle near Pamida, police chief Terry Eilers said. No condition report was available late Monday, but hospial personnel said Fritz was in a recovery wing.
"The car was crossing over from the Super 8 into the Pamida parking lot," Eilers said
Fritz "evidently didn't see the car pulling out" and struck it broadside, Eilers said.
Fritz was not wearing a helmet and is believed to have suffered head injuries and a severely broken left leg, eyewitnesses told the Enterprise.
"Nobody has been cited at this time," Eilers said. "The accident is still under investigation."
Eilers said the motorcycle, which was heading westbound, struck the northbound vehicle at a high rate of speed.
