Park Rapids man seriously injured in crash southeast of DL
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – A Park Rapids man was seriously injured today when his vehicle smacked into a building after it was hit by a car making a U-turn on Highway 87, the State Patrol reported.
Aloyus A. Anfinson , 79, was injured in the accident southeast of Detroit Lakes. It occurred about 8:32 a.m., the Patrol reported.
The Patrol said the accident happened when Lori A. Hanson, 40, of Park Rapids tried to make a U-turn on Highway 97, west of County Road 41.
Anfinson swerved his 1998 Dodge recreational vehicle in an attempt to avoid Hanson’s Ford Taurus, but the vehicles still collided. The collision forced Anfinson’s vehicle into the south ditch and it continued until it hit a nearby building, the Patrol reported.
Hanson did not appear to be injured, the Patrol reported. No condition was listed for a passenger in Hanson’s car, Jeremy A. Holder Jr., 25, of Mahnomen.
Anfinson was taken by air ambulance to a Fargo hospital, then transferred to a St. Paul hospital, a State Patrol dispatcher said.
The directions the two vehicles were travel was not given in the report.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene of the crash.
