Park Rapids man sentenced to prison for car theft
Eric Jerome Goodman, 25, of 210 Park Ave. S., Apt. 6, Park Rapids, was ordered to serve 18 months (1½ years) in prison, with credit for 122 days served since his arrest. He was also fined $210, and ordered to pay $5,450 in restitution for damages. A second count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle was dismissed at sentencing.
Goodman was accused of allegedly stealing a motor vehicle and using it to flee police in a Dec. 17 incident in Becker County.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer was trying to pull him over for speeding and driving through a stoplight when he sped away. The high-speed pursuit lasted about three miles, entering the community of Osage, then ended when Goodman allegedly crashed into a parked car and garage after missing a turn.
Goodman was arrested after attempting to flee the vehicle on foot. The car turned out to have been stolen from Affordable Auto Sales in Osage.
