Hubbard County authorities are investigating the death of a 61-year-old Park Rapids man who was found in the Fish Hook River late Saturday afternoon.

Bruce Allen Knowles was apparently pulled alive from the river near Hubbard and airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died.

He was apparently found in the river by canoeists, emergency personnel said.

Sheriff Cory Aukes was in Cook County Monday and not available for phone calls due to poor cell reception.

All Aukes would say was that “it’s an interesting case.”

He would not characterize it as foul play, but Knowles was apparently well-known to authorities.

Monday afternoon Hubbard County investigators tried to launch a boat on the river north of the scene but were unable to get the motor started.
