Park Rapids, Henrietta annexation agreement modified
Park Rapids and Henrietta Township have agreed to modify an orderly annexation agreement to more accurately align with growth on the outskirts of the city.
The original agreement met the growth needs of the community and was a well-conceived plan arrived at through numerous meetings.
The anticipated growth didn’t occur, however, and economic conditions changed drastically.
After several meetings between city and township officials, the agreement was changed. Now, a smaller number of parcels will be annexed into the city in 2017.
“We decided that this was mutually beneficial to the city and township,” said City Planner Dan Walker. “If development picks up we can address changes in the future.”
An area between North Henrietta Avenue and County Road 4 was initially scheduled to be annexed in 2017. According to the planning department recommendation, three parcels adjacent to Henrietta Avenue North are the only parcels in that area that are likely to be developed in the next 10-20 years. The east part of that area is being released back to Henrietta Township.
In another area between Henrietta Avenue South and 169th Avenue, the planning department recommended retaining six parcels along Henrietta Avenue South but releasing other parcels to Henrietta Township.
In an area east of the city limits along Highway 34, planning recommended retaining four parcels but releasing the rest of the area to Henrietta Township.
