Park Rapids given No. 2 section seed
As expected, the Park Rapids girls tennis team received the No. 2 seed for the Section 8A tournament.
The section team tournament will begin Monday at the Grand Forks Tennis Center with quarterfinal matches. The Panthers will play No. 7 New York Mills at 1:30 p.m. Park Rapids defeated New York Mills 7-0 during the regular season.
Monday's other quarterfinal matches pit No. 4 Thief River Falls against No. 5 East Grand Forks at 9 a.m., No. 3 Crookston against No. 6 Wadena-Deer Creek at 10:30 a.m., and No. 1 Roseau against No. 8 Perham at noon.
The semifinals will be played at 11 a.m. and the championship match will be played at 1 p.m. Friday at Grand Forks.
Because Wadena-Deer Creek has homecoming Friday, individual matches involving W-DC players will be held Monday following the team quarterfinals.
Park Rapids' Alyssa Carlson and Christina Smith received the No. 1 seed in doubles and will play W-DC's Sarah Jajjar and Desiree Isola, the No. 16 seed, in a first-round match Monday afternoon.
Park Rapids' other section entrants will begin play Friday afternoon following the team championship match. Bailey LaCoursiere received the No. 3 seed in singles and will open against No. 14 Kristin Kane of New York Mills. Julia Renner received the No. 5 seed in singles and will play No. 12 Jenna Esala of New York Mills in the first round. Karly Dickinson and Allie Girtz received the No. 7 seed in doubles and will open against No. 10 Hannah Brenk and Suzanne Coleman of Perham.
The individual tournament concludes Saturday at Grand Forks with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
The section team champion and the champion and runner-up in both singles and doubles qualify for the state Class A tournament. The state team tournament will be held Oct. 26-27 and the individual tournament will be held Oct. 28-29 at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
