The Panthers topped the 17-team girls field with 62 points as Megan Olson (fifth in 16:06) and Lydia Kantonen (seventh in 16:13) finished in the top 10. Ellery Overmyer was 15th in 16:45, Kendra Coborn finished 21st in 17:05 and Madison Steffel was 22nd in 17:09 to round out Park Rapids’ team score. Abby Mueller (28th in 17:37) and Whitney Steffel (58th in 19:20) rounded out the Panthers’ varsity.

Roseau’s Madeline Huglen led the field by covering the 4,000-meter course in 15:36. Huglen is rated No. 11 in the latest state Class A poll.

“We knew Roseau would be the team from our section to go after,” said Park Rapids head coach Kerry Johnson. “I was so happy for the girls that they took first. They have been working hard, so it’s great when hard work pays off. Our girls run so close together. It’s always a real team effort. They just need to keep working hard and improving.”

Overmyer led the boys field by covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:47 as the Panthers finished third out of 21 teams with 112 points. Overmyer is rated No. 7 in the state Class A poll. Zach Jewison (eighth in 18:03), Bailey Mueller (22nd in 18:47), Brad Eischens (35th in 19:15) and Tyler Breitweser (51st in 19:43) rounded out Park Rapids’ team score. Jared Kantonen (57th in 19:55) and Nathanael Rairdon (71st in 20:18) completed the Panthers’ varsity.

Roseau’s boys won the team title with 59 points while Perham’s junior varsity was second with 75 points.

“The guys made some progress at Bagley and that was good to see,” said Johnson. “We have our work cut out for us to beat Roseau at sections, but there is a great deal of season left and the guys are working hard. Just closing the gap between some of our runners will be what it takes. The guys want to get back to state. Until the final tally is done, that is their focus. It should be exciting.”

United North Central finished third in the girls meet with 109 points behind Alyssa Peterson (ninth in 16:19), Andrea Korvela (19th in 17:00), Joy Haataja (29th in 17:43), Anna Olson (30th in 17:43) and Jen Stifter (31st in 17:44).
