Park Rapids girls set winning pace, boys finish fifth at Bagley/Fosston Invitational

Park Rapids repeated as champs in the girls race and placed fifth in the boys race at Tuesday's Bagley/Fosston Invitational cross-country meet at Bagley.

Lydia Lutz finished second overall in 16 minutes, 7 seconds in leading the girls to the team title with 62 points. Warroad was second in this 17-team meet with 80 points. Last year the Panthers led the way with 93 points.

In the boys race, the Panthers finished fifth out of 21 teams with 149 points. Thief River Falls ran away with the boys title with 28 points. Park Rapids finished 14th with 340 points last season.

Following Lutz for the girls were Alex Pederson (14th in 16:57), Morgan Olson (15th in 17:01), Lora Remus (19th in 17:13), Kaylee Hilmanowski (20th in 17:15), Shelby Pierce (24th in 17:25) and Tiffany Deitchler (42nd in 18:24). Park Rapids is ranked No. 10 in this week's state Class A poll.

Victoria Alexander of Lake of the Woods set the pace in the 4,000-meter race with a winning time of 15:42. Alexander is rated No. 6 among the state's Class A runners.

United North Central finished 11th with 289 points. Joy Haataja had the Warriors best time of 19:07.

Nevis' Bryon Schuldt led the way in the boys 5,000-meter race with a winning time of 16:27. Schuldt is rated No. 15 in this week's state Class A poll.

Leading the Panthers were Taylor Kimball (15th in 18:21), Isaac Overmyer (23rd in 18:33), Jake Waggoner (31st in 18:47), Bailey Mueller (44th in 19:03), Tanner Otterness (59th in 18:28), Matt Sullivan (65th in 19:38) and Zac Haugland (71st in 19:53).

Jonathan Miller of United North Central finished fourth in 17:40 as the Warriors finished 11th with 287 points.

In the boys junior varsity race, the Panthers claimed runner-up honors with 68 points behind Jacob Hays (12th in 20:11), Ryan McBrady (13th in 20:10), Kevin Merfeld (15th in 20:34), Travis Deitchler (16th in 20:35), Nate Carlson (23rd in 21:16), Josh Hays (46th in 22:30) and Ben Kading (63rd in 24:53).

Running for Park Rapids in the boys 3,200-meter junior high race were Adam Mackley (10th in 13:13), Matt Konshok (47th in 15:10), Jacob Bridgman (75th in 16:45) and Wesley LaCoursiere (77th in 16:50).
