In 2000, the Park Rapids Education & Activities Foundation was formed to help support District 309's educational, fine arts and athletic programs.

Over the last nine years, the PREAF has awarded more than $216,000 in grants to these programs. In order to continue these efforts, the PREAF needs more members.

There are four annual membership levels.

Panther Parents is $50 per year and features one transferable parent pass with eight punches for admission to all regular season athletic contests and fine arts performances and a window sticker.

Panther Cub is $100 per year and includes one annual season pass good for admission to all regular season contests and fine arts performances, recognition in game programs, and a window sticker.

Panther Den is $309 per year and includes two annual season passes good for admission to all regular season contests and fine arts performances, a 1 x 2 advertising space in game programs, one article of Panther apparel, a certificate, a decal and a window sticker.

Panther Pride is $1,000 per year and features four season passes, a 2 x 4 advertising space in game programs, two articles of Panther apparel, advertising on the school calendar, an engraved sponsor plague and decal, a listing on a hanging banner in the Area High School gym, and a window sticker.

There are also two sustaining membership levels. The Silver level is $3,090 per year and the Gold level is $10,000 per year. Miscellaneous monetary gifts are also accepted and will be invested in the endowment fund.

During the 2008-09 school year, the PREAF awarded $38,884.73 to athletic, fine arts and education programs. In the spring, the Foundation awarded $1,500 to boys tennis for transportation and tennis balls, $720 to girls golf and $720 to boys golf for rain gear, $3,500 to girls softball and baseball for a indoor batting cage at the Century School gym, $1,545 to volleyball for junior high volleyballs and jerseys, $1,020 to boys and girls swimming for two portable digital pace clocks, $370 to girls softball for equipment, $1,000 for prom and post prom, and $500 to BPA for a trip to nationals.
