"This is a big, slow-moving system," said National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Grafenauer.

"For Park Rapids, you're looking at 7 to 14 inches of snow over the next two, two-and-a-half days. The heaviest snow will start later today and fall through Tuesday, then taper off a bit."

It's expected to snow through Wednesday, he added.

"This is really a prolonged storm."

Grafenauer said travel advisories will go into effect, as winds and blowing snow will make motoring conditions hazardous by late today.
