Park Rapids will use recently reported Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment test scores to continue improving student performance.

Century principal Joleen DeLaHunt said a leadership team has already met and is setting goals for the next year.

"There is a really great trend of pluses" in scores from 2011, she said. "I think they're pretty amazing."

The MCA results were released Aug. 1 and showed gains in reading and math across the state in grades three through eight.

Park Rapids students were above the state average with 66 percent proficient in math, 77 percent proficient in reading. The state average shows students 62 percent proficient in math and 76 proficient in reading.

Century elementary students showed very high scores, with a 93 percent proficiency rating in math, 86 percent in reading.

Century middle school students scored 60 percent in math proficiency, with 71 percent proficient in reading.

DeLaHunt said that although the data is old - from the last school year - it will be useful to look at and make improvements to teaching in certain areas.

"We'll be using this to continue to improve," she said.
