Jeff Voigt said he is expanding the paint shop so more planes can be worked on at a time. The Park Rapids paint shop is one of only a few in the entire Midwest so business is booming, he said.

Many of the aircrafts are coming out of Idaho. A Kodiak plane was finished earlier this summer in Park Rapids. It costs about $2 million. Planes are shipped across the country.

A recent plane was a single engine turbo propeller that held 10 passengers.

They had been painting about three of them a month. It takes about three weeks to paint one of the planes.

Aviation paint is specially formulated and is quite expensive. It can cost about $1,000 per gallon.

Voigt is looking to expand and was hiring more people to paint.

Park Rapids Aviation specializes in Aerocet float planes. They have a full aircraft paint, avionics and interior and maintenance facility.

They also perform repairs, upgrades and interior refurbishment and other improvements.
