Park Rapids artists earn commendations at section festival
Several Park Rapids students placed in the Section 8A Visual Arts Festival Thursday, March 31 at Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks.
Luke Swenson received Best in Show for sculpture.
Several students received a superior rating, which means a student has demonstrated a precise and fluent knowledge of the tools, skills, elements, principles and history of art, made artistic choices based on expanding, transforming or combining options to improve or refine the artwork and demonstrated creative expression through the synthesized use of elements, principles, skills, techniques and materials.
Kayla Schaefer received a superior rating in drawing; Alli Belfiori, Luke Swenson, Cassidy Haggard, Shannon Thielen and Rabeca Schaefer received superior in painting; Brandy Parsons and Allycia Zinke received superior in media arts; Elizabeth Lempola, Anna Grimes, Dustin Martine and Zach Haugland received superior in crafts.
Four students received excellent ratings, which means they demonstrated accurate and articulate knowledge of the tools, skills, elements, principles and history of art, made artistic choices based on evidence to improve or refine the artwork and creatively expressed through crafted or modified use of elements, principles, skills, techniques and materials in the creation of the artwork.
Sam Coborn received an excellent rating in crafts; Jason Dennis and Nick Snyder received excellent in drawing and Elizabeth Lempola received excellent in painting.
The students study under art instructor Michael Hartung.
